AIMING FOR GUN-FREE STREETS AND BRINGING CRIMINALS TO JUSTICE

CHALLENGING GUN CULTURE, MAKING COMMUNITIES SAFER

The impact of gun crime on our communities can be devastating and tackling the criminal use of firearms is complex. Xcalibre was set up by Greater Manchester Police in 2004 to tackle the criminal use of firearms, challenge gun culture and work towards making the streets of our county gun-free.

It has achieved some success through high profile, targeted policing supplemented by close liaison with communities, schools, councils and other partners. In February 2008 Operation Cougar was put in place to address an increase in firearms use through robust policing and use of stop and search powers with the support of the communities.
