The town of Bury is eight miles north-west of Manchester, and home to Peel Tower and the Robert Peel Memorial. Bury Metropolitan Borough is made up of six towns - Bury, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich, and has a total area of 38.3 square miles. Located on the River Irwell, Bury is well known for its open market which has been in operation since 1444, and the East Lancashire Railway heritage line which runs between Heywood and Rawtenstall.
