Trafford is the fifth-most populous district in Greater Manchester, with an estimated population of over 235,000. It covers 41 square miles and includes the area of Old Trafford and the towns of Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston, Partington and Sale. The River Mersey also flows through the borough separating North Trafford from South Trafford. Within the borough is the Trafford Centre which is one of the largest shopping centres in the UK. The borough is also a focus for a number of sports across Greater Manchester including cricket and football with Trafford being home to Lancashire County Cricket Club and Manchester United.
