The GMCA is legally required to establish an Audit Committee to oversee its full range of accountabilities, which includes the budget for policing and for the police element of council tax bills. The Mayor and Chief Constable have agreed that a Greater Manchester Joint Audit Panel is necessary in order to give sufficient focus to the resources allocated to policing.
The purpose of the Greater Manchester Joint Audit Panel is to provide independent assurance on the adequacy of the risk management framework, the internal control environment and the integrity of the financial reporting and annual governance processes in operation within the Chief Constable’s Corporation Sole and the functions of the GMCA responsible for administering the Police Fund (income, expenditure, assets, liabilities).
