Notice of Misconduct hearing

ALLEGATIONS

On 28 June 2024, after attending a third-party report of an elderly male being injured by a younger male, the officer failed to take any investigative action including obtaining any accounts in respect of how the injuries had occurred and took no steps to secure evidence from the scene before subsequently cancelling the crime report.

It is therefore alleged that the officer breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to:

1. Duties and Responsibilities: Police officers are diligent in the exercise of their duties and responsibilities. Police officers have a responsibility to give appropriate cooperation during investigations, inquiries and formal proceedings, participating openly and professionally in line with the expectations of a police officer when identified as a witness.
2. Honesty and Integrity: Police officers are honest, act with integrity and do not compromise or abuse their position.
3. Discreditable Conduct: Police officers behave in a manner which does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence in it, whether on or off duty.

The allegations have been assessed as gross misconduct which could lead to the officer’s dismissal if proved.

CONDITIONS OF ATTENDANCE

Members of the media and public may attend subject to the following conditions:

1. The taking of photographs and the use of film or sound recording equipment during the hearing, except for official use, is prohibited.
2. Any accredited member of the media wishing to attend the hearing must give notice thereof to Greater Manchester Police Misconduct Proceedings Unit at [email protected]
3. Any accredited members of the media attending the hearing must produce valid identification to do so; and
4. There may be parts of the hearing which are held in private session; if that is the case, any accredited member of the media or public attending the hearing will be asked to leave during the private session and will be informed by the Hearings Officer when they can return.

The media may make written representations upon these directions to the Chair. Such representations are to be sent to Greater Manchester Police Misconduct Proceedings Unit at [email protected]
