Yesterday afternoon, two men appeared before Manchester Crown Court where they were jailed for their part in an unprovoked attack of a man outside Printworks in Manchester City Centre.

Liam O'Prey (21) will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of Rico, and the section 18 assault of a 17-year-old boy who received life-saving treatment from members of the public at the scene

Darius Blackburn (20) and Deontay Crosfield (22) were arrested in West Yorkshire over the weekend and are the latest to be charged by our Major Incident Team with Javell’s murder

At around 3am this morning, (Sunday 21 August 2022), emergency services received multiple calls about a disturbance at Goose Green, Altrincham. On arrival we found two males, a 17-year-old and a 31-year-old, with stab wounds. They were receiving first aid from members of the public before officers and paramedics managed the scene. Both males were taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where tragically the 31-year-old man passed away. We can now identify the 31-year-old victim to be Rico Burton (01/08/1991). Superintendent Ben Ewart Said: “Firstly, may I take this opportunity to pass on my sincere condolences the family friends of Rico Burton at the very difficult time. “I would also like to commend members of the public who were at the scene, who administered first aid prior to the emergency services arrival. “Greater Manchester Police have launched a Murder investigation and specialist officers are supporting the victim’s family. “A 21-year-old male was arrested at the scene and a 20-year-old male was arrested later this morning, both of whom remain in custody. “This was a senseless act and both victims should have returned home this morning after enjoying a night out with friends. “I would like to appeal to anyone who was at the popular night spot of Goose Green in Altrincham overnight or who may have information in connection with this incident. Any photographs, videos or CCTV footage would also be extremely valuable in aiding our investigations. “I would also urge anyone who was out with the victims or suspects who have not yet come forward, to please do so. “We have increase police patrols in the area and tackling knife crime remains a priority for Greater Manchester Police - the devastating effects of which have been demonstrated today”.
