Shortly after 6.30pm yesterday evening (Thursday 14 January 2021), officers were called to a report of a firearms discharge at a property on Bellfield Mill Lane.
Officers attended and found damage to the window of the property consistent with that of a shotgun discharge.
Thankfully no one was injured and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.
No arrests have been made and officers remain at the scene conducting their enquiries.
Detective Inspector Mark McDowall, of GMP's Rochdale District, said: "I understand the concern this may cause in the community, but I wish to reassure you that we are treating this as an isolated incident and a team of detectives is working to piece together the circumstances surrounding what happened.
“Residents may see police gathering evidence and conducting enquiries around the local area, and if you have any concerns or questions please feel free to speak to our officers at the scene.
"We know there will be people out there with information vital to this investigation, so if you think you know something that could assist our enquiries or if you saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of this incident, then please get in touch with us as soon as possible."
