Detectives in Stockport investigating the assault of a man in a takeaway in the Heaton Norris area have released an image of a second man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.
At around 8.10pm on Wednesday 5 May 2021 the victim - a man in his 40s - was approached by a man who head-butted him outside the New Tai Wah takeaway on Belmont Street, causing the victim to fall backwards and bang his head on the ground.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with facial injuries and a serious head injury which required lifesaving surgery. He has since been discharged from hospital.
After an appeal made in July, enquiries led investigators to no longer needing to speak to a man whose image they released at the time.
The second man police have released an image of today (Sunday 15 August) is someone officers believe could hold important information about the incident.
No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Constable Joel Massender, of GMP's Stockport district, said: "Our enquiries have progressed at good pace since our appeal last month, which importantly allowed us to narrow down our lines of enquiry.
"We are in a position today to release a picture of a second man who we are interested in speaking to in relation to this shocking attack which left a man requiring several stitches.
"If anyone recognises this man or has any other information about this incident, no matter how small, then I encourage you to contact us so we can bring to justice the coward that committed this act."
Anyone with any information about the assault should contact police on 0161 856 9790 quoting incident number 2677 of 06/05/2021.
Information can be passed on anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
