At around 1.30pm on Monday 14 June 2021, police were called to reports of an assault on Pennine View, Audenshaw.
A man - who is described as being white with dark hair, a beard and aged in his mid 30/40s - attended a property before assaulting two victims.
Emergency services attended and two men - aged 51 and 49 - were taken to hospital. The 49-year-old man has since been discharged, and the 51-year-old man remains in a serious but stable condition.
No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Alexandra Cesarz, of GMP's Tameside division, said: "This is a shocking incident which has resulted in two men being taken to hospital.
"We are still in the early stages of our investigation as we try to piece together the exact circumstances of this assault, however detectives do not believe there to be any wider threat to the community at this time.
"If anyone was in the area at this time and witnessed this assault, or saw a man matching this description, please do not hesitate to get in contact with police."
