Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted on a canal tow path in Trafford yesterday.
Officers were called at around 11:20am on Tuesday 4 January 2022 to the Bridgewater Canal Tow path near to Park Road in Timperley, to reports that a man in his 60s had been assaulted around 20 minutes before.
An unknown male approached the man and his partner as they were walking along the path, and punched the man to the ground before making off on an electric scooter.
The male is described as skinny, around 5ft 7", with light brown hair and in his late teens or early 20's wearing a black tracksuit, and riding an e-scooter. He was also wearing a small black cross body bag that has been seized at the scene.
Police attended, and a 62-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment after suffering serious facial injuries.
Officers are investigating, no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Helen Bagnall from GMP's Trafford District said: "This was a shocking, unprovoked attack in broad daylight, and this kind of violent behaviour won't be tolerated.
"We're following a number of lines of enquiry and looking through CCTV, but there were a number of witnesses in the area at the time and we're keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything, recognise the male from the description, or have CCTV or DashCam footage that could help.
