Shortly before 9.20pm on Wednesday 23 October 2019, police were called to reports of concern for a man in a property on Basil Street.
Emergency services attended and specialist negotiators engaged with the man throughout the night and early morning.
A number of local residents were evacuated as a precaution.
At around 5.30am this morning, officers safely entered the property and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage. He has been taken to hospital for assessment.
Superintendent Mark Kenny said: “I would like to thank local residents for their patience and support while we responded to the incident and thankfully emergency services were able to bring the situation to a safe conclusion and there is no further risk to the public.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding last night’s incident and I would ask anyone with any information that could assist our enquiries to please get in touch.”
