Officers were called at 7.20pm on Sunday 25 April 2021 to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a car on St Ann's Road North, Heald Green.
Emergency services attended and the pedestrian - an 18-year-old male - was taken to hospital. The man sustained minor injuries and has since left hospital.
The car - believed to be a white Volkswagen Golf - failed to stop at the scene of the collision.
An investigation was launched and today (Saturday 1 May) officers arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of a section 18 assault. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Constable Robert Shakespeare of GMP's Stockport district, said: "We recognise the concern and worry this incident has created in the area and I want to reassure the public that we are doing all we can to identify the responsible party.
"Thankfully the man did not sustain any serious injuries but the outcome of this collision could have been far worse.
"Although one male has been arrested in connection with this incident I would stress that our investigation is very much ongoing and I appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time - or has dash-cam footage - to get in touch with police as soon as possible."
Anyone with information, or dash-cam footage, should contact police on 0161 856 9625 quoting incident 2430 of 25/04/21 or email [email protected].
Alternatively, reports can be made anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
