Dangerous driver who killed one friend and seriously injured another jailed

A man from south Manchester who admitted killing one friend and seriously injuring another after dangerously driving in Trafford in December 2019 has been jailed.

Michael Pullan (07/12/1991) was sentenced to three years and nine months after he was speeding on Warburton Lane and crashed into a tree while giving his two friends a lift home on the evening of Wednesday 11 December 2019.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, 26-year-old Daryl Bright from Partington was pronounced dead at the scene and his best friend suffered serious injuries.

An investigation from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit was launched and officers arrested Pullan and later charged him with causing death by dangerous driving after finding he had been travelling at least 60mph in a 40mph area.

Pullan was also charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and he pleaded guilty to both offences before yesterday (Monday 26 April 2021) being sentenced to serve three years and nine months imprisonment at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

He was also banned from driving for three years and must take an extended test after this period to have his license returned.

Police Constable John Harrison-Gough, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A young man losing his life in this way was a tragic incident and it is so important that we are now able to give Daryl's family the answers they needed and allow them to have some closure after a truly awful time.

"This is a cruel reminder of the consequences that can occur through dangerous driving and it is vital lessons are learned from this so that other lives aren’t so sadly taken away in such circumstances.

"Michael Pullan will now pay the price for his reckless and fatal actions that night - not only will he now be serving time behind bars but he has also condemned his friend's family to a life sentence without their loved one.

"Next time you get in your vehicle and think of disobeying the rules of the road, please remember how fatal your decisions can be not just for you and your loved ones, but also for other innocent people using the roads too."
