Officers received a report of a man in his 50s who had been found unconscious around 5.10pm on Thursday 12 August 2021 at a bus stop on Wilmslow Road, Manchester close to the junction with Victoria Road.
Following extensive CCTV enquiries it was later discovered that the man had been assaulted close to where he was found unconscious.
He was taken to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
An 18-year-old man, who self-presented at a police station, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Clegg of GMP's Major Incident Team: "As always our thoughts are firmly with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life following this incident and they are currently receiving support from specialist officers.
"We currently have one man in custody for questioning but our investigation remains ongoing and I would encourage anyone who may have information, or dash-cam footage, to contact police and assist us with our enquiries."
