Following intelligence work by neighbourhood officers from the Trafford District, with assistance from the Tactical Vehicle Interception Unit, police attended an address in Media City as part of an investigation into a number of burglaries that had taken place in the Urmston area, where a 21-year-old was arrested in connection with them.
On Thursday 8 July at around 6.30am, four mountain bikes worth a combined amount of around £2,500 were taken from the rear of a property on Meadowgate in Urmston.
At some point in the early hours of Sunday 11 July 2021, a gold watch worth £1,700, £115 in cash and credit and debit cards were taken from a property on Cavendish Road, also in Urmston. Several fraudulent transactions were then made on the cards taken.
At some point overnight on Wednesday 14 July, an offender gained entry to a property on Albert Avenue in Urmston via the rear door. The keys to a Honda Civic, as well as the car were taken, along with a set of house keys, and a key to another property. A handbag, wallet and purse, a Seiko Kinetic watch, and a Hugo Boss watch were also taken.
Also on Wednesday 14 July, a man reported that his wallet had been taken from his car outside his address on Iona Way in Urmston, after a man had attempted to access his property without success. A number of fraudulent transactions were then carried out using his credit and debit cards.
At around 5am on Thursday 15 July, a woman woke at her home on Grangethorpe Avenue to the sound of banging. Going downstairs she saw a man attempting to break into the property via a rear patio door, but upon being disturbed the man left through the rear garden gate.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, burglary, possession of a bladed article, possession of class B drugs and criminal damage. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Officers have also recovered a Seiko Kinetic watch.
Inspector Jon Ezard from GMP's Trafford District said: "Myself and my team hope that this sends a clear message that we will investigate all reported burglaries, and we'll always take crimes of this nature seriously.
"Burglaries have a very real impact on those affected by them, and GMP will not tolerate this sort of behaviour. This is the fourth arrest in connection with burglary and theft of motor vehicle offences within the Urmston area in the last four weeks.
"I hope this arrest serves as some reassurance to the community that we are committed to tackling this sort of criminal activity in their area. But we can't do it alone - if you or anyone you know sees anything suspicious, or something doesn't seem quite right, please get in touch.
"You can contact us via LiveChat on our website www.gmp.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111. If you say something, we can do something."
