At around 10.30am on 10 July, police were called to an address on Bradford Street, Bolton to reports of a sudden death.
Emergency services attended and discovered the body of a 46 year-old man, believed to be David Jones.
Detectives are keeping an open mind but are currently treating his death as suspicious and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
A member of David's family said: "David was a very big part of my life. He was caring, respected and liked by everybody who knew him.
He will be missed so much. I cannot imagine life without him."
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Butterworth from GMP's Major Incident Team said: "Our team of detectives have launched a thorough investigation in to this man's death and will follow all lines of enquiry to piece together exactly what took place.
"Our investigation is in its early stages and we would ask for anyone who might have known David, or witnessed anything in this area on the evening of 10 July, to please get in touch - even the smallest piece of information could help with our investigation.
