At around 12.30am on Sunday 11 July 2021, police were called to reports of an assault which occurred outside of The Vape House on Talbot Road in Old Trafford.
Enquiries have established that the victim - a 31-year-old man - was approached by a man who punched him, causing the victim to fall to the floor.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury where he remains in a stable condition.
No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Constable James Simpson, of GMP's Trafford district, said: "This is a shocking and unprovoked assault which has resulted in a man having to be hospitalised.
"This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we are doing all we can to trace the man responsible as quickly as possible.
"Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed this assault, or has any information that could assist police, should get in touch as soon as possible. Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in helping us to complete our investigation."
