Detectives are appealing for information following the attempted rape of a woman in Oldham.
Officers were called at around 10.50pm on Friday (18 June 2021) to a report of an assault of a woman on Hamilton Street in Oldham.
The woman, in her 20s, was walking along the road when a man grabbed her before taking her to the floor and repeatedly punching her.
Thankfully, the woman managed to call the police and get away with minor injuries.
The man is believed to have been wearing a dark grey top with dark tracksuit bottoms and trainers with white soles.
Detective Sergeant Julie Howel, from GMP's Oldham CID, said: "This was understandably an extremely distressing incident for the woman who was walking on the road.
"Thankfully she managed to make off from the man and is now receiving specialist support.
"We immediately launched an investigation and have been carrying out a number of lines of enquiry and are now asking the public to come forward with any information that may assist us.
"There will be an increased presence of officers in the area whilst we continue with our investigation and anyone concerned can speak to us.
"Anyone with information or anyone who may have seen anything is asked to call 0161 856 9080 quoting incident number 3375 of 18/06/2021 or report it online at www.gmp.police.uk.
"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
