Officers were called just before 9.15am on Wednesday 24 March 2021, to Canterbury Road, Hale to a report of a woman with fatal injuries.
Emergency services attended and a 71-year-old woman - who has since been formally identified as Dyanne Mansfield - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Paying tribute to Dyanne, her family said: "Dyanne was a much loved wife, sister and friend to many, and will be greatly missed by all.
"She really enjoyed all the time she spent on holiday, and she got a lot of pleasure and enjoyment spending time out in her garden."
A full investigation into her death has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
A 72-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in hospital with serious neck and arm injuries.
Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward and speak with police.
