At around 7:15pm last night (Wednesday 14 December) GMP were called to reports of a disturbance on Moss Lane, Whitefield.
A witness saw two men chasing another man, with one of them in possession of a weapon, believed to be a knife. Thankfully, nobody was found to be injured.
Initial enquiries suggest that the victim had interrupted the group who were trying to steal the catalytic converter.
At around 8:30pm officers spotted a suspicious vehicle heading along Bond Street, Bury. Two men aged 21 and 40, and one woman, aged 29 have been arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle, affray, and possession of class A drugs.
A search of the car revealed multiple weapons, including a knife, a baseball bat, and a large metal pole.
The three people remain in custody for questioning.
Sergeant Dickinson, of Bury’s Neighbourhood Crime Team has said: “I would like to thank members of the public for remaining vigilant regarding suspicious activity and reporting it to the police as it helped our officers to make a swift arrest of the suspects and remove dangerous weapons off our streets.
"We would like to reassure the community that thefts of such nature are a priority for Greater Manchester Police and are being actively tackled by all local neighbourhood policing teams."
Reports of catalytic converter theft should be made as soon as possible to increase the chances of detection.
