Domestic Abuse (DA) affects 1 in 3 women throughout their lives and happens in all sorts of households and relationships.
There is no such thing as a typical victim or perpetrator, and behaviours can typically be masked from those even closest to them.
The Greater Manchester Domestic Abuse Helpline have developed a short film, which challenges widely held beliefs and conveys the reality of domestic abuse.
The launch of 'Behind Closed Doors' highlights the different ways domestic abuse can manifest, aiming to equip officers to spot warning signs in even the most seemingly normal of environments.
Detective Superintendent Rebecca Boyce of GMP said: "Abusive, controlling behaviour can often be masked, and the ability for officers to spot the tell-tale signs to safely intervene is key.
"The campaign is intended to raise awareness of different scenarios and types of abuse, further implementing GMP’s ethos of keeping women and girls across Greater Manchester safe.
"Greater Manchester Police will NOT tolerate domestic abuse or violence against women and girls. We will listen to you. We will believe you. We can and will help you."
