Today, (30 July) we are using Section 60 powers in parts of Manchester. These powers will be used in parts of the Hulme, Moss Side and Whalley Range areas of the city.
The temporary additional powers allow us to stop and search people in the areas shown in the map between 4pm today and 6am tomorrow.
We can also disperse anyone from the area we believe may cause harm or distress to others.
We understand the use of these powers can cause concern and can seem excessive.
We use these powers when we have information people may have weapons in the area, or there is information that there could be violence.
Our priority is to keep you safe. We’re using these powers to prevent violence involving weapons.
You will see more officers patrolling these areas over the course of this weekend.
If you have information about weapons or suspicious activity, get in touch. We can be contacted by Live Chat on our website gmp.police.uk.
Alternatively, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. They will not ask for your name or trace your call.
