Detectives from our Major Incident Team have tonight had a murder charge authorised after the fatal stabbing of a man now formally identified as Paulo Da Silva in Oldham over the weekend.
Paulo – aged 48 – suffered serious injuries before sadly dying on arrival at hospital following a reported stabbing on Union Street at around 4.20am on Saturday 28 May.
Rudi Cardoso (31), of Alma Street, Rochdale, was arrested in the Ipswich area of Suffolk in the early hours of Sunday 29 May before being brought to a Greater Manchester custody site – where he has since remained for questioning.
This evening (Tuesday 31 May) he has been charged with one count of murder and has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Paulo’s family has been kept updated as the investigation progresses, and specially-trained officers are continuing to do all they can to support them at this awful time.
