Officers received a call at approximately 9pm last night, Tuesday 25 April 2023, to reports of a road traffic accident on Manchester Road in Carrington.
The accident involved a number of vehicles and a cyclist.
An investigation is currently being conducted into the mechanics of the collision involving the young cyclist.
Colleagues from NWAS were also on scene and took the seriously injured teenager to hospital.
A woman and man, the drivers of two of the vehicles, were arrested on scene for drink and drug related driving offences. They remain in custody for questioning.
Inspector Darren Hancock, Head of GMP’s SCIU said: “This was an horrific accident that has left a 13-year-old boy with potentially life-changing injuries. We send out thoughts to him and his family, and our specialist officers continue to support them.
“We have arrested two people in relation to this accident, but our investigations are still ongoing. We would encourage anyone who was in the area of Manchester Road in Carrington at approximately 9pm last night and who may have captured the vehicles on dashcam footage, to come forwards.
“In addition, if there is anyone with doorbell footage or CCTV that shows the vehicles or the accident, we would urge them to contact 101, quoting reference number 003771-25042023.“
