At around 6:15pm on Wednesday 19 April Greater Manchester Police received reports of a fight between two men where one was armed with a weapon, believed to be a large knife, at Corporation Street in Manchester City Centre.
One man received minor injuries.
After extensive enquiries, a 49-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and is currently in police custody for questioning.
Detective Constable Daniel Mather of GMP’s City of Manchester Central division said: “Firstly, I’d like to thank the public for sharing information with us direct following the incident which happened in broad daylight in a busy area of our city earlier this week.
“We want to reassure the public our investigation has led to an arrest in what we believe is a targeted attack.
“Information and details can still be shared with us direct as our enquiries continue, but we are aware of a video being circulated on social media and would urge the public from sharing this further.
“If you have any information that may help, please call us on 101 quoting 2938 of 19/04/23. You can also use our Live Chat service on the GMP website to do this.
“Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
