GMP responded to calls at approximately 6pm yesterday (Thursday 27 April 2023) to reports of an injured man and two others carrying knives on Springville Avenue in the north of Manchester.
Colleagues from the ambulance service attended and the injured man was taken to hospital with serious, but not life threatening head injuries.
An investigation is currently ongoing to establish the events leading up to the assault and to identify potential suspects.
There will be an increased presence of police officers conducting highly visible patrols in the area today and over the weekend.
Section 60 powers have been extended until 3pm on Sunday 30 April 2023, which gives officers extra powers to stop search anyone in a defined area within a specific time.

Chief Inspector Simon Nasim from GMP's City of Manchester North division, said: "The decision to bring these powers into place is not a decision we take lightly.
"I would like to thank the public for their support and I appeal to them to continue coming forwards with information that is allowing us to take the necessary action to disrupt and dismantle those individuals that have been involved in bringing unacceptable behaviour onto our streets."
