An investigation has been launched by GMP’s Major Incident Team following a police response to an incident at around 6.30pm yesterday evening (Wednesday 16 August 2023).
Emergency services attended the scene, and it was established two men had been stabbed on Dale Street in Manchester city centre.
This is being treated as an isolated incident and the victims – a man in his 20s and a man in his 30s– were promptly taken to hospital for treatment.
One of the victims remains in a critical and life-threatening condition in hospital and the other has suffered serious injuries but is in a stable condition.
An investigation is underway, and a scene in the city centre remains in place whilst detectives and other teams in Greater Manchester Police begin to collect evidence to piece together a full and comprehensive timeline of events.
Three males were arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of section 18 assault, a 21-year-old man remains in custody and the other two males have been released with no charge.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes of GMP’s Serious Crime Division, said: “One of the men continues to fight for his life in hospital, we owe it to both men who have suffered injuries and their families to find out exactly what happened to them and bring those responsible to justice.
“The victim’s families are being supported by officers and are being kept up to date with any advancements in our investigation.
"We are treating this as an isolated incident, however, you will see an increased uniformed presence in the city centre to aid the investigation and to provide reassurance to members of the public. They are there to provide a listening ear to anyone with concerns about this incident.
“I want to appeal to anyone who has any footage from the area yesterday evening- including CCTV, mobile or dashcam to please share it with the investigation team, and I urge you to do what you can to assist us - think back and provide any information that could aid our enquiries.
“Any piece of information you may have could be crucial to our investigation, so I urge you to do the right thing and report this to us.
“You can make a report by calling 101 quoting Log number 3244 of 16/8/2023 or via the LiveChat on GMP's website gmp.police.uk
“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
