At around 2.20pm yesterday (2 August 2023) officers responded to reports of a road traffic collision on the M62 westbound between junction 21 and junction 20.
A car containing three people was travelling on the westbound carriageway, where it is believed to have struck the central reservation.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the driver, a man in his 30s, sadly died at the scene.
One man suffered minor injuries, while another man suffered serious injuries. He currently remains in hospital.
Officers are now appealing for information as they continue to investigate the collision.
They are asking for anyone who may have seen something – or who may have dashcam, mobile, or CCTV footage from around the time – to please come forward.
They are particularly interested in talking to the owner of a white Luton van, which is believed to have witnessed the collision. There is no suggestion that they are at fault.
GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit can be contacted on 0161 856 4741 or 101, quoting log 1973 of 02/08/23.
Alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
