GMP supports major Bank Holiday Weekend of events, including Pride

Greater Manchester is gearing up for one of its busiest weekends of the year and Greater Manchester Police will be out in force to ensure everyone is able to enjoy themselves safely.

Manchester Pride takes place across the Bank Holiday Weekend, while on Saturday Manchester United face Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in the Premier League and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds play at Wythenshawe Park. 

Chief Superintendent Phil Davies, GMP’s Event Commander for Manchester Pride, said: "This will be a weekend of celebration in Manchester and GMP has a proud tradition of supporting large events and keeping people safe. 

“There will be an increased, visible police presence in and around Manchester this weekend in line with GMP’s response and planning for major events as we have for many years. 

"We have worked closely with organisers of the events to make sure that everything is in place for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time. 

“Public transport will be busier than usual, with some public transport services not running due to industrial action, so people should plan their journeys to and from the events. 

“There is also a role for the public to play in reporting anything that doesn’t feel right. We need people to trust their instincts - if you are not sure about something, tell a steward or a police officer. 

“Our officers are there to help and advise, and we hope everyone has a great weekend. 

“Everyone who attends Pride should be able to go in confidence and without prejudice – if anybody experiences hate crime in any form should report it to police and it will be dealt with.”
