GMP's Major Incident Team are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the attempted murder of two men on Dale Street in Manchester City Centre on Wednesday

Officers were called to the incident at approximately 6.30pm on the evening of Wednesday 16 August 2023, in which two men had sustained serious injuries. One of them remains in hospital receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.

Detectives in the Major Incident Team are following lines of enquiry in relation to six men who were believed to be at the scene at the time. Three men were initially arrested - two have been released with no charge and the third, a 21-year-old man, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The scene at Piccadilly Basin has now been reopened and can be accessed by members of the public, and there will be an increased police presence over the coming days, whilst the investigation is ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector, David Moores, of the Serious Crime Division of the Major Incident Team said: "This incident occurred at a place where there would have been a lot of footfall, due to it being school summer holidays and after work for most people.

"There were a lot of people out walking and shopping, and the canal bridge heading towards the Northern Quarter was busy. We are now appealing to anyone, who may have mobile phone footage, to come forward to assist with our enquiries.

"We are also looking for CCTV and dashcam footage that might be available of the area at the time of the incident. One man has sustained extremely serious, life-changing injuries, and we have to find the people responsible for his attempted murder.

"This is an extremely serious incident and the Major Incident Team are continuing to work tirelessly to investigate.
