Detectives investigating a confirmed firearms discharge in South Manchester last night (12 August 2023) are appealing for witnesses.
At approximately 12am on Saturday, officers were called to reports of the sound of multiple shots fired on Alberts Road in South Manchester.
It has been reported that in the run-up to this incident a vehicle was damaged by two males – one of them armed with a suspected firearm – who were then seen chasing a third male in his 20s.
An investigation was immediately launched, and a scene remains in place. No arrests have been made at this time although a number of enquiries are on-going. No one is reported to have been injured during the incident.
Chief Superintendent Rick Jackson said: “This is clearly a distressing incident for those living nearby and I want to reassure you that extensive enquiries are ongoing and finding those responsible remains an absolute priority.
“I would like to reassure the local community that this is being treated as a targeted incident with no wider risk to the community. We will however have extra uniformed patrols in place over the coming days whilst the investigation continues and if you need any reassurance, they will be on hand to support.
“There is no place for firearms on the streets of Greater Manchester and we are working hard every day to bring those involved in the possession or use of firearms to justice.
“I would urge anyone with relevant information about this incident, or anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV footage, to report it to police.”
You can do so by calling 0161 856 6051 quoting log 48 of 12/08/2023. Alternatively you can report via the LiveChat function on GMP’s website (www.gmp.police.uk) or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
