Officers investigating a series of robberies in Stockport appeal for information

Officers in Stockport are appealing to the public for information following a series of robberies, thefts and reports of criminal damage.

During an incident that took place on Cherry Tree Lane in Great Moor on 10 August, a male was assaulted and by four other males in balaclavas on bikes, who attempted to steal his motorbike from him. A few days later on 13 August, a man was assaulted with a hammer outside an address on Welland Street in North Reddish – the offenders threatened the victim and attempted to steal his motorbike but eventually fled the scene empty handed.

On 15 August, on Buxton Road in Stockport a further victim made a report to police that a group of males had attempted to steal his scooter. The same day another male reported that his motorbike had been stolen from Wellington Road South in Stockport whilst another reported a personal robbery again by a group of males in balaclavas where they threatened to harm him if he didn’t give up his motorbike.

The offenders are believed to be a group of males wearing dark clothing, balaclavas and who have two motorbikes. They are reported to use weapons and angle grinders and typically target bikes and motorbikes.

Detective Constable N Keary said: “I understand the concerns incidents of this nature may cause, particularly when the offenders are using threats of violence but I want to reassure the community that we are thoroughly investigating these robberies and are treating them as linked at this time.

We will be carrying out further enquiries as we continue to investigate the robberies and would ask anyone who knows anything about the robberies – or who has been a victim of a similar crime – to get in touch with police as soon as possible.”
