Greater Manchester Police are continuing to investigate following reports of a filmed assault involving school children at around 3pm on Moor Road in Manchester on Tuesday 12 September at a Metrolink stop.
Enquiries are ongoing with a 12-year-old girl, who was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been bailed whilst the investigation continues.
The victim is receiving continued support from officers at this time.
Detective Superintendent Wesley Knights of GMP’s City of Manchester South district said; “We understand the concern this incident has raised in the local community and assaults of any kind will not be tolerated by GMP.
“We will always take reports of this nature involving youth violence seriously and after an initial investigation we have made an arrest in connection with this incident.
“Our local patrols in and around the area have been tailored to ensure we continue to provide a visible reassurance to the community in the coming days.
“I would also encourage anyone with additional information that may help officers with their enquiries to call 101 quoting incident 2549 of 12/09/2023 as we understand there were a number of witnesses to the assault.”
We understand the interest this case will have generated but it is absolutely imperative that the suspect has a fair trial so members of the public must refrain from engaging in conversations online, at least until proceedings have concluded. Previously circulated videos should be removed.
