Bolton patrol 22_08_23.jpgBolton’s neighbourhood officers are ensuring that the town centre and surrounding areas are well-serviced and looked after as they proactively clamp-down on crime in the area.

There are nearly 7,000 officers within Greater Manchester Police. Across a mere couple of hours on Monday evening, a handful of them located a wanted man, made another arrest on suspicion of threats to kill, performed welfare checks, engaged with the public, patrolled hotspots, monitored CCTV, and deterred criminality from occurring on Bolton’s streets.

Following reports of a man harassing a woman in the town centre, a man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and assault, with officers from the Neighbourhood Team quickly gathering all the relevant facts and paying a visit to the local CCTV hub to aid with their enquiries.

Shortly after, a reported wanted man was spotted in the Farnworth area, with officers responding rapidly and making an arrest on suspicion of breach of a court order. While he was taken into custody, officers wasted no time in getting back out onto the streets, quickly monitoring areas of concern that have been communicated to them by the public.

Their activities included:

  • Checking in with vulnerable residents and ensuring they have the care and support they require.
  • Stopping suspicious vehicles and individuals in areas known to have problems with criminality.
  • Speaking to people to constantly build intelligence pictures and ensure that they feel comfortable discussing any issues that they may have.

Sergeant David Keir, from GMP’s Bolton district, said: “Our neighbourhood officers are there to serve the Bolton community and they will do whatever they can, whenever they can, to achieve that purpose.

“Neighbourhood officers deal with all manner of topics and in Bolton, they are keen to crack down on the issues that matter most to you. In just a couple of hours, we can deal with anything under the sun. And that is exactly what we are there for. We want to keep the community as safe as possible and that could be through any manner of policing. Whether it’s a simple chat or getting out and arresting wanted people, we are determined to crack down on criminality.

“If you ever see us out and about, and have any queries or concerns, please do get in touch with us. Whether by pulling us for a chat or attending a PACT meeting, we are always keen on hearing from you.”
