50th arrest made by Operation Green Jacket

The multiagency Operation Green Jacket – investigating non-recent child sexual exploitation in Manchester – has made its 50th arrest, following four further arrests in December.
A 44-year-old man from Burnage was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault by penetration on 14th December.
Earlier this month, on 8th December, a 34-year-old man from Salford was arrested on suspicion of rape.
On 7th December a 39-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and fraud at a property in Salford.
On 1st December a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and fraud at a property in Salford.
All suspects have been bailed pending further lines of enquiry.
Operation Green Jacket is a multi-agency operation launched in 2019, ahead of the publication of ‘An assurance review of Operation Augusta’ in 2020.
Led by GMP’s Child Sexual Exploitation Major Investigation Team (CSE MIT) – a resource dedicated to investigating the most serious and complex cases to ensure consistently high standards, it focuses on offending against vulnerable young people in the South Manchester area in the early 2000s.
Detective Inspector Eleanor Humphreys said: “These arrests are the result of ongoing work from ourselves and Manchester City Council to identify all those responsible for child sexual exploitation in South Manchester in the early 2000s.
“Our team is committed to getting it right for those who were harmed and are relentlessly pursuing long-awaited judicial outcomes: following new investigative lines and building evidence-based files to enable the Crown Prosecution Service to authorise charges.
“To support the victims and survivors at the centre of our investigations, we’re working closely with specialist support partners to provide bespoke packages to ensure they are cared individually for as long as they need.”
