Officers in Burnage are appealing for witnesses following reports of an attempted abduction today (Friday 1 December 2023).
At approximately 5:20pm, it is reported that a 14-year-old female was approached by a man whilst walking along Errwood Road in Burnage.
After a short conversation the man picked the girl up and carried her to a bench in the Cringle Park area and attempted to keep her in place. The man took a phone call and whilst he was distracted the female managed to escape. Thankfully no injuries have been reported.
The suspect is described as a black male, aged approximately 20, and who was wearing a black puffer jacket, black joggers and white trainers.
Detective Inspector Helen Bagnall of GMP South Manchester district said: “Since receiving the report of this incident, our officers have been following up a number of lines of enquiry and are committed to carrying out a full investigation,
“I understand the concern that incidents of this nature will raise in the local community, but I want to reassure the public that we take such reports very seriously. Extra officers have been deployed to the area for reassurance and I urge you to speak to them if you have any concerns.
“We are also appealing to anyone with information about this incident to make contact with police – this includes if you have relevant footage such as CCTV, mobile or dashcam.
“Anyone with any information is asked to call 0161 856 6063, quoting log number 2601 of 01/12/23.”
