Officers investigating a serious collision which took place on Lower Leigh Road, Westhoughton on Friday 15 December 2023 at approximately 4.15pm are appealing for witnesses.
It’s reported that a car travelling towards Westhoughton overtook a HGV, subsequently colliding with a car travelling in the opposite direction. A third vehicle then crashed into the back of this car as it came to a holt.
A 71-year-old woman is currently in hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Others involved reported minor injuries.
Investigators from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the HGV who didn’t stop at the scene, as they may be a significant witness to the collision, or have dashcam footage that will assist with enquiries.
Anyone who believes they witnessed the incident, has CCTV or dashcam footage should contact police on 0161 8564741quoting log 2213 of 15/12/23.
