Investigators are appealing for information following a firearms discharge in Manchester this afternoon (21 December 2023).
At approximately 3pm, officers were called to reports of gun shots on Stockport Road, Manchester.
It was reported that a group of males were targeted by a man who subsequently fled in a car. There have not been any reports of injuries, but a car was damaged during the incident.
An investigation has been launched and a scene remains in place as officers carry out their work. No arrests have been made at this time, but a number of enquiries are ongoing.
Chief Inspector Chris Boyd, from GMP’s City of Manchester district, said: “This is clearly an extremely concerning incident, and I want to reassure the local community that a number of extensive enquiries are ongoing as we seek those responsible. We are putting in significant resources to thoroughly investigate this incident and those who live nearby can expect to see an increased police presence in the coming days.
“We are currently treating this as a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public. However, if anyone has any concerns, I would urge them to speak to an officer in their local area, who will be able to assist with any queries.
“We have zero tolerance for firearms and they have no place on our streets. We will work hard to bring those involved with this incident to justice.
“If you have any information – or dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage that you think is relevant – then please do get in touch with us.
“You can do so by calling 101 or 0161 856 4305, quoting log number 2116 of 21/12/23. You can also report information at gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
