Police were called at around 4.30am yesterday morning (Sunday 5 February) to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man.
Officers attended a property on Plymouth Grove, but despite the best efforts of emergency services a man in his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody ahead of being questioned by GMP’s Major Investigation Team detectives.
Detective Inspector Louise Edwards, of GMPs Major Incident Team, said: "A murder investigation has been launched this morning and we are currently trying to establish the circumstances that very tragically led to this man's death.
"This is being treated as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public and we currently have one man in custody for questioning.
“You may notice an increase of police visibility in the area in the coming days as we progress our enquiries. If you have any concerns please speak to one of our uniformed officers who will be patrolling the nearby areas.
"Anyone who may have information relating to this incident is asked to contact police as soon as possible"
