Officers from GMP’s Operation Venture team were out and about in Tameside yesterday as the force continues combatting the threat of knife crime across Greater Manchester.
After checks on known hotspot areas for violent crime and drug dealing across the borough, officers were dispatched to assist the local policing response team following reports of a male who was threatening members of the public with a knife.
The offender was in a shop where he had also threatened the shopkeeper and was subsequently detained by Op Venture officers and found in possession of several bladed articles.
The male in his 30s was arrested for possession of a bladed article, attempt robbery and racially aggravated public order, and remains in custody awaiting questioning by officers.
Inspector Jon Ezard who heads up the Operation Venture team said: “My officers are patrolling across all areas of Greater Manchester and I hope this arrest demonstrates that there is no place for knife crime and this level of criminality on our streets.
“GMP will take action against those who are willing to use violence and weapons against innocent members of the public, and we will endeavour to keep our communities safe.”
