Robert McCabe (24/09/1965) of Oakside Close, Stockport was jailed at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday 27 January 2023 for seven years for inflicting over 10 knife wounds in her legs and arms – with one penetrating so deep, it exposed the bone.
He was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievously bodily harm and assault by beating. He also received a five-year extended licence period.
The court heard that McCabe had been to a local pub on the evening of Sunday 16 October 2022, to watch the Manchester City vs. Liverpool football match with his ex-partner and her mother.
He launched the frenzied attack on her after returning to the address some time after they had initially returned following the match, producing the knife as she had tried to get him to leave the property.
As he told her “tonight is the night you are going to die”, McCabe stabbed at his partner multiple times.
Sustaining heavy blood loss, emergency services took the victim to hospital, whilst McCabe was hunted by police. He was later picked up on Stockport Road in Cheadle and taken to custody at Cheadle Heath Custody Suite for questioning.
DC Jones, of GMP’s Stockport CID, said: “First of all, we would like to thank the victim for her bravery in supporting the prosecution, ultimately bringing her former partner to justice in what will have been a terrifying ordeal that no one should have to experience.
“We are extremely pleased with the result and goes to show Greater Manchester Police will continue to investigate and treat reports of a serious nature with the action it requires, especially those intent on committing serious violence.”
