Criminal proceedings against a 49-year-old man have today (Tuesday 18th July 2023) been discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The investigation was opened on Sunday 1 November 2020 after the 49-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault in Salford.
Detective Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr, Head of the GMP Public Protection Department said: “Given the high-profile nature of this case and significant public interest, GMP has decided it is right to share the news that the 49-year-old, who was arrested and charged in connection with an investigation opened in November 2020, no longer faces criminal proceedings in relation to this.
“Following discussions with the Crown Prosecution service and the victim, it was decided not to pursue this case further. This decision has not been taken lightly but reflects our commitment to being victim-led in our response to domestic abuse.
“Despite media and public interest in the case, we have decided not to comment on it in any further detail.
“Greater Manchester Police is dedicated to supporting anyone who has been the victim of abuse and we know how difficult it can be for people to find the confidence to come forward and contact us.
Preventing and responding to Domestic Abuse remains one of our top priorities and we continue to make more arrests, secure more charges and work closely with partners across Greater Manchester so we secure the right outcome and best support victims throughout their journey out of abuse.
“If you or anyone you know is a victim, I would urge you to make a report so GMP and our partners can give you the support and advice you need.
