Officers responded to reports of a collision involving two cars and a pedestrian on Chester Road, Stretford, near to the Tesco Superstore shortly after 10.10pm last night, Saturday 22 July 2023.
It is believed that the pedestrian, a female in her 40s, was struck by a Black Audi A8 travelling city bound whilst she crossed Chester Road, before falling into the path of a Mercedes on the Stretford bound carriageway. The Audi left the scene however was recovered nearby.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the pedestrian sustained injuries that have proven fatal. Her family have been contacted and are being supported by specially trained officers.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention. He remains in custody at this time.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage of the incident or the vehicle movements leading up to the collision, to get in touch by calling the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 3481 of 22 July 2023.
