Greater Manchester Police welcomed 60 new Police Constables in the latest attestation ceremony held at Sedgley Park on Tuesday 4 July 2023.
The new officers were sworn in by Assistant Chief Constable Matthew Boyle, his first as a member of GMP’s senior leadership team, in front of Magistrate Stephen Paine.
The attestation ceremony is a key moment for all police officers as they begin a career in policing. The attestation said by every new officer underlines their commitment to serve GMP and the public with fairness, integrity, diligence, and impartiality.
ACC Matthew Boyle said: “You’re in a privileged position. The mission of policing is keeping people safe, looking after the vulnerable, and fighting, preventing, and detecting crime.
“It's a very proud moment for me. I've been a police officer for 25 years. I remember my attestation, I remember my nephew's attestation and my son's attestation.
“So, it's proud for me to lead GMP today, doing my first one. These officers here, the smiles were beaming across their faces. You can see the excitement, you can see the commitment, and I think we're privileged as a police force. And I think our communities will benefit from these 60 officers who started their lives today as a police officer.”
PC Rose Cooper admitted she is proud to have become a new officer and the route she will now follow in GMP is ‘perfect’ for her.
“It’s surreal, but a proud feeling,” PC Cooper said, “Once you get your certificate and you complete the ceremony, you feel proud.
“I have gone down the detective route. When I started to think about it, I realised it was the perfect role for me.”
Are you interested in becoming a police officer? Recruitment is currently OPEN for police officer roles across Greater Manchester.
