On 26 July 2023, Kashif Iftikhar (DOB: 04/05/2000) appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court and was sentenced to a total of 2 years and 5 months in jail.
The sentencing follows an earlier hearing where Iftikhar pleaded guilty to three section 47 offences of assault of a person occasioning actual bodily harm.
Iftikhar has been on remand since he was arrested on 5 February 2023.
He was arrested by police following a number of domestic abuse disclosures from a woman in Trafford.
After officers conducted initial enquiries, it was established that the victim had been involved in an abusive relationship with the suspect.
During the course of a 2 year long relationship, Iftikhar subjected the victim to horrendous physical and emotional abuse.
The victim had suffered in silence during this time until she made the decision to report the abuse to Greater Manchester Police, enabling officers to act.
The investigation team at GMP Trafford CID set about compiling evidence and witness statements that would later compel the offender to plead guilty to the offences and secure him a jail sentence.
Detective Constable Julie Bonney-Thorpe of Trafford CID said: "I want to commend the bravery of the victim in coming forward and reporting what happened to her.
"Iftikhar's actions are utterly deplorable and he has shown himself to be consistently violent and abusive towards the victim, and showing a disturbing increase in the level of violence he inflicted upon her.
"He subjected the victim to a campaign of physical and emotional abuse and I am relieved he has been put behind bars.
"We at Greater Manchester Police are determined to hold every perpetrator of domestic abuse to account.
"If you are a victim of domestic abuse or know someone who is or has been affected by domestic abuse or violence, please know that we can support you. GMP can also put you in touch with other support organisations that understand your specific needs. Do not suffer in silence, you are not alone.”
