Officers appeal for information as they continue to investigate post-UCL final disorder in city centre

Officers investigating disorder in Piccadilly Gardens following Manchester City’s Champions League victory have released images of 25 people who they believe could help with their enquiries.

While the majority of people enjoyed the club’s historic Treble victory respectfully, others gathered in Piccadilly Gardens following the final on Saturday 10 June last month.

During the course of the evening, a police car was smashed, sustaining serious damage, while a police laptop was also taken and smashed. A bus stop was also damaged during the night, in addition to bottles being thrown at officers.

Officers investigating trouble during the night have released the 25 images as the people pictured may be able to help with their investigation.

Inspector Phil Marsh, from GMP’s City of Manchester district, said: “Last month marked a historic night in our city’s sporting history and I do not want to allow the disorder to detract from this momentous occasion.

“However, this sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable. The majority of people behaved respectfully and peacefully, but a number of people who attended the celebrations in Piccadilly Gardens took part in disorder which resulted in a heavily damaged police car and the damage of other police property. We will never tolerate this sort of behaviour and we have been working hard to identify those responsible, with our officers combing through hours of bodycam and CCTV footage."
