Manchester is about to welcome the triumphant Treble winners home this evening, with an open-top bus parade around the city centre.
The celebrations are due to take place between 6.30pm and 8.30pm (Monday 12 June 2023).
The parade will start on Deansgate before turning onto St Mary Gate, Cross Street, King Street, Brown Street, Booth Street, Nicholas Street, George Street before ending on Princess Street near St Peter’s Square.
The victorious players will then appear on a stage on Oxford Street, which will feature a viewing area for fans.
There will be a number of road closures in place and fans, commuters, and visitors to the city are advised to visit Transport for Greater Manchester’s website for further information. Their website can be found here: tfgm.com.
There will be an increased police presence in the city, in order to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for fans as they celebrate the biggest night in the club’s history.
The officers will be there for your safety: if you have any queries, issues, or simply want to have a chat, they will be more than happy to talk things through with you.
Ensure you keep your belongings with you and remain vigilant. Some thieves will utilise large crowds to operate and it is worth remembering to zip-up pockets, keep bags in sight, and keep your valuables protected.
If you see anything suspicious, report it to a police officer or steward. Always call 999 in an emergency.
With the hot weather, attendees are advised to use the necessary protection: wearing sunscreen, caps, and staying well-hydrated. Officers and colleagues in other agencies will be on-hand to help anyone during the course of the evening.
Forecasts are also indicating possible storms for the event, and fans should keep an eye on weather forecasts and social media for the latest updates on the parade. GMP and Manchester City are working closely together in the event of any delays. Visitors should take care to prepare for this possibility.
Superintendent Gareth Parkin, from GMP's City of Manchester district, said: “The Man City victory parade will attract thousands of supporters into the city centre to celebrate club’s triumphant season after winning the European Cup for the first time ever.
“The parade will be a joyous occasion for the community to come together. GMP has been working with partners to ensure a smooth-running and safe event, and while we expect the vast majority of people coming together to be genuine fans, we urge you not to drink in excess or be involved in anti-social behaviour.
“Those attending should keep their belongings safe and report anything suspicious to police. There will be an increased police presence around the city centre. They are there to keep you safe. Crime can be reported via gmp.police.uk or 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
