In the 12 months to the end of May 2023, reports of rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour made to Greater Manchester Police reduced by 40%, and vehicle nuisance/ inappropriate use by 50%.
Alongside continuing investment in community facilities, parks, green spaces and new homes, the partnership is committed to better engaging with all those who live and work in the community:
Neighbourhood lead Chief Inspector Clare Ryle said: “There is a fine line between engaging with individuals and providing the response communities expect to crime and anti-social behaviour, but we have made and are continuing to make progress. Reports of ASB have fallen in the last 12 months but, whilst the community remain concerned, we remain committed to working with our partner agencies to problem solve and build a safer community - for both now and the future.
“The number of officers posted to Stockport’s Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT) has been increased by 19 and they are working with colleagues to provide a proactive presence in hot spots at peak times. The NPT is tackling the use of illegal off road bikes by using intelligence to inform proportionate policing and, in the right cases, taking action against riders, seizing illegal vehicles, and recovering those which are stolen. We’ve also secured funding to install additional CCTV, which won’t just act as a deterrent but will also help us solve crimes and bring offenders to justice.
“As the neighbourhood lead for Stockport, I really care about getting this right. ASB is prevalent across the country, which gives us a great opportunity to evaluate our tactics and learn from others to develop a best practice response. Whilst we are doing that, it’s really important we listen to and engage with those who are living and/ or working in our communities – if that is you and you have something to share with us, please do contact us via the website or Bee In The Loop.”
Mark Glynn, Director of Place Management at Stockport Council, said: “"Brinnington is a great place, and we are proud of their community's many positive initiatives and relationships. Like most areas, there are challenges, but through a powerful partnership between GMP, Stockport Council, Stockport Homes, and many other partners, we are actively building a safe and thriving community.
"Working in partnership with communities at a neighbourhood level is a big part of this work – designing ways to keep people independent, safe and connected in their community.
"Together, we're continuing to work hard to ensure every person across Brinnington lives the best lives they can."
John Bowker, Executive Director of Operations at Stockport Homes Group says, “Together with our partners and the community we are committed to ensuring that Brinnington is a safe place to live and to tackle any anti-social behaviour.”
