Today (Monday 12 June 2023) Maciej Mikolajczyk (27/11/2004) of Manchester was sentenced to life, with a minimum of 20 years, for murder.
Lilner Netto (31/05/2005) and Benson Jones (08/04/2005), both of Salford, were sentenced to eight years for manslaughter.
The prosecution told the court that Alan was fatally stabbed in Clowes Park on Saturday 29 January 2022.
Knowing that Alan had been arguing with Mikolajczyk, officers started executing warrants less than 24 hours after his body was found.
The warrants resulted in the seizure of a number of objects - including two pairs of trainers, belonging to Mikolajczyk and Jones, found to contain Alan’s blood and mobile phones found to contain telling messages between the three defendants.
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Davies, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with Alan’s loved ones, who are understandably devastated. We hope today’s result gives them a sense of closure.
“This was a really violent attack – Alan was found with more than 20 injuries, five of which would have killed him. There is no doubt that this issue could have been resolved without weapons.
“These boys will now spend 36 years and several key milestones behind bars – I really hope this sentence makes those who carry knives think twice before they leave the house.”
