Two men were taken to hospital with injuries to their legs which are believed not to be life-threatening.
A section 60 is currently in place in area remains active until 6.00pm tomorrow evening (Saturday 10 June 2023).
The section 60 authority - which grants officers extended powers to stop and search individuals within the defined area - has been introduced following recent incidents of violent crime in the past week in the area and surrounding areas.
Detective Inspector Steven Horton said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we try and establish the full circumstances around this incident.
“We believe this is a targeted attack and we are appealing to the public for their help, if anyone has any information that could assist us with our enquiries, please do come forward.
“Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars. If you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.”
